How to Play

Move, Spell, Score!

1

Move tiles, then spell

Tap a tile and its legal moves light up in gold — along straight or diagonal lines into empty cells. At least one tile has to move every turn.

2

Spell in a straight line

Tap the letters in order — left, right, up, down, or diagonally. No bends. Your word can use tiles you never touched.

3

Score points, clear tiles

Points are letter count × the sum of the letter values, so length and rarity both pay. Played tiles come off the board — it opens up as you go, then the letters start to run out.

Features

Built for people who take word games personally

Eight directions

Diagonals count

Words run any straight line on the board. Once you start seeing the diagonals you can’t stop.

Online multiplayer

Play your friends anywhere

Host a game, share the four-digit join code, and up to four of you spell it out from four different couches. No lobbies, no strangers.

Pass and play

One phone, four players

No accounts, no signal, no waiting. Hand the phone over and keep score on the hand-drawn sheet — or switch to the clean modern one if that’s more your speed.

Word of the Week

Beat the score to beat

Every week the best word anyone played goes up on a brass plaque as the score to beat. Top it and you earn a special award you can share around.

FAQ

Questions (none of these are frequent yet)

Is there real strategy to it?

More than you’d think. Every letter you leave behind is a letter someone else can use, so leaving a Q or a Z where an opponent can reach it is how games get lost.

What does it cost?

Playing on one device is free — all four seats, no limits. Online multiplayer (18+) is a one-time $2.99 unlock, and it comes with a free coupon to hand a friend or a family member.

What devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad, iOS 16.6 and later. iOS only — no Android or web version, and none planned. US App Store at launch.

When can I play it?

Soon. LineSpell is finished and in testing — when it clears App Store review, the download link shows up right here.

Do I need an account?

Never. No accounts, no passwords, no sign-in. Online games use a four-digit join code you share with your friends yourself.

How long do I get for a turn?

You set the turn timer: anywhere from one minute to twenty-four hours, or no limit at all. A short turn timer keeps a game around one table quick and tense; a long one is for friends in other time zones who’ll take their turn tomorrow.

Does the board get easier or harder?

Both. Played tiles are removed, so early on it’s tight and then the lines open up. By the end the good letters are gone and every point is a fight.

Are there ads or tracking?

No, and there never will be. No ads, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, nothing following you around. You buy the game, you play the game.

What’s Word of the Week?

The highest-scoring word played that week, mounted on a brass plaque in the app as the score to beat. Beat it and you get a special in-app award to share — bragging is the whole prize.

Almost time to lose to your friends.

LineSpell is coming to the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Check back — this is where the download link will live.
